Huang Hsi Chun, born in Taipei in 1985, is a watercolor artist known for capturing quiet, emotional moments from daily life—like sunlight through a window or a quiet afternoon with a cat. Since 2013, he has worked as a full-time artist, with exhibitions across more than ten countries including Paris, Melbourne, London, and New York.

His work focuses on the warmth and memory in everyday scenes, rather than dramatic landscapes. In 2019, he received the ATIM Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art Award in New York. To him, painting is a way to express emotion honestly. In this course, he will help you observe the everyday and turn your feelings into watercolor stories.

At the start of this course, let’s begin with the story of Huang Hsi Chun—not just a painter, but an artist who uses watercolor to write about the emotions of everyday life. Growing up in Taipei, he was drawn to art from an early age, filling calendar paper with dinosaurs, volcanoes, and underwater worlds. What looked like child’s play was, in fact, the beginning of a lifelong creative journey. Later in life, he faced burnout and personal lows, but a trip to Paris helped him reconnect with his love for painting—and the quiet power of emotion in art.
