Painting abstract landscapes, blossoming flowers eternally in the heart.

Painting abstract landscapes, eternal blooms in the heart.

Showcasing romance through the characteristics of watercolor.

『Deepening understanding of wet-on-wet techniques and special techniques in watercolor』

In watercolor painting, there are many techniques, with the most fundamental being 「dry technique」 and 「wet technique」. The wet technique involves quickly adding color while the water and pigments are still wet, allowing the pigments to naturally penetrate and blend, creating soft and harmonious tones, Replacing clear contour lines and boundaries, creating a dreamy and ethereal effect, This painting technique not only highlights the romantic atmosphere of the artwork but also reduces the sense of lines in the composition, resulting in an overall softer effect.

Therefore, this technique requires precise control over the use of water, ensuring an appropriate amount of moisture on the paper. If it is too wet, the colors may flow and not penetrate well; if it is too dry, the colors won't blend and diffuse effectively. Mastering this control of moisture requires a significant amount of practice and hands-on experience.

And in this class, not only will you be taught how to become familiar with and master the use of moisture, but Teacher JINLI has also specially prepared a total of 8 unique watercolor techniques, including "Flowing Technique, Blending Technique, Resist Technique, Washing Technique, Wax Apply Technique, etc." for all the students.

Within, you can learn how to keep colors clear and avoid muddiness during the blending process, as well as the application and control of moisture.

Key points for learning oriental style watercolor-POINTS

『The painting style that emerges from the fusion of Eastern and Western cultural essence』

Teacher JINLI excels in the 「wet technique」where the paper is moistened before painting, resulting in a fresh and elegant style with rich colors.

The Normal University Fine Arts Department Research Institute analyzes her works and states :『Using the brushstrokes and reserved space of Eastern ink painting to outline the vases and flower vessels, highlighting the physical flowers with ethereal containers, Influenced by the simplicity, freshness, and ethereal charm of Eastern painting, coupled with her fresh and elegant use of color, her works exude a unique romantic quality』

Teacher JINLI's painting style goes beyond traditional forms of watercolor, showcasing a more individualistic approach to color and painting techniques.

Original flowing landscapes-FLOW

『Creating natural traces, generating unique vitality』

In watercolor, Teacher JINLI inherits the flowing technique discovered by his father, creating a fractured pattern style that is particularly suitable for depicting mountains, rivers, and streams.

The flowing technique originated from his father in the early 1960s. Due to restrictions on painting at that time, JIN, JIA-QI secretly used miniature art tools outdoors. He casually mixed red soil found on the ground into the pigments, unexpectedly creating a visual effect resembling debris flow. This became the flowing technique. The uniqueness of this technique lies in its unconstrained and incidental nature. The flowing technique is suitable for depicting landscapes such as mountains and rivers. Its distinctive feature lies in creating natural traces within watercolor paintings, blending the free flow of water and color to produce a unique and vibrant effect full of vitality. This not only endows JINLI's artworks with a unique style but also passes down this distinctive and interesting technique in teaching.

Still life painting infused with the breath of life - VITALITY

『Like a poem, like a dream, exuding a tranquil and elegant beauty』

Teacher JINLI's still life watercolor artworks are renowned for their unique technique and Eastern aesthetic. Through rich color expressions, he skillfully captures the forms of flowers, vessels, and light and shadow, infusing the scenes with vividness through meticulous brushstrokes.

Every item blossoms with light, shadow, and vitality on her canvas, showcasing profound artistic skills. These works emit a tranquil and elegant atmosphere, seemingly transporting the viewer into a poetic realm.

- WHAT CAN I LEARN IN THESE LESSONS?

『Additional learning indicators in the course』

Utilization of various techniques such as blending|Color suppression|water collision...etc.

『Watercolor painting is a rich and colorful art form that encompasses a variety of techniques.』

With the characteristics of watercolor, artists can employ various techniques to present unique and vibrant effects.

「Blending technique」is a method commonly used to create a gentle and smooth transition effect. Use a wet brush or wet cloth to gently rub, push, or blend these colors. This technique requires operation in a moist state and demands mastery of appropriate color intensity and moisture control.

「Color suppression technique」refers to the intentional limitation or reduction of certain colors to emphasize others or create contrast in the composition. This technique helps highlight specific elements and enhance visual effects. Artists can establish richer layers and visual depth in watercolor paintings, a method often used to express emotionally rich works or emphasize specific themes.

「Color collision technique」involves placing complementary or strongly contrasting colors together to enhance visual effects and attract the viewer's attention. When using the color collision technique, artists need to carefully choose colors to ensure the overall harmony of the composition.

In addition to the techniques introduced above in this course, Teacher JINLI will provide detailed instruction on a complete set of special techniques during the class, Allowing you to more precisely convey the emotions and artistic atmosphere you want to express in various works!

01

Creation is not only about skills but also a dialogue of the soul

『Appreciate the harmonious dialogue between skill and soul』

Teacher JINLI's watercolor course is like a poetic journey through a labyrinth of colors. Under her brush, still life and flowers become like poetry and dreams, with colors and brushstrokes intertwining, echoing the beauty of both Eastern and Western art. Here, it's not just about learning techniques; it's also a place to seek a resonance of the soul. Let's savor the profound flavor of art together and weave a canvas that belongs to us. Looking forward to you finding fulfillment in both your soul and art during this journey of flowers and landscapes.

In this class, you can learn various classic flowers, natural landscapes, and precise objects. Follow Teacher JINLI's unique techniques, observe how the natural flow of water on the paper transforms into realistic artworks, and appreciate the fresh vitality in painting.

Rich painting experiences, creations filled with warmth.

『Reflecting the rich emotional landscape of the artist - 40 years of experience』

Teacher JINLI has rich experience in painting spanning 40 years, starting from the guidance of her father. Through various mentorships and international exhibitions, she has accumulated professional techniques, achieving the path of becoming an Oriental watercolor artist.

Courtyard Roses - Rich Expressiveness in Layers.

『Connecting the artistic soul through the symbolism of flowers』

Roses symbolize - love, beauty, tenderness. The intricate petals and layers of rose flowers provide a challenging opportunity for everyone to explore their artistic skills, making it highly valuable for learning. This class teaches not only about flowers but also the perfect blend of emotion and aesthetics.

Learn how to infuse emotions into your artwork, making the paintings more personalized and resonant. Utilize various brushstrokes and textures to convey the vibrancy and realism of roses. Through the study of roses, you can also learn how to use color to express the layers and rich emotions of flowers.

Noble Peony - Pure and noble among the flowers, standing alone as the unrivaled beauty of spring.

『Observe the structure, texture, and color changes of flowers』

The poet Bai Juyi describes it in his poem "Peony" as follows :「When peonies bloom, a hundred layers unfold in a day, transforming the spring season into a vibrant display of sunlight and breeze」Traditionally, peonies have always symbolized wealth, magnificence, and splendor, with their beautiful and graceful presence representing the radiant sunshine. From Teacher JINLI's artwork, one can appreciate the charm she expresses through peonies.

The shape of peony buds and the unfolding of petals play important roles in painting, requiring attention to capture their forms at different stages of growth. Due to the typically soft petals of peonies, using wet painting techniques helps to better present their softness and layering. At the same time, with rich colors, emphasis should be placed on presenting the layers and changes in light and shadow of the petals. Fully utilize the transparency of watercolors to showcase the texture of the petals.

Rose Beauty - Adorned with artistic flair, a symphony of pink.

『The transparency of the petals highlights their lightness.』

Ancient poets described pink roses as "A beauty in pink, delicate and charming, a moment of wind and rain transforms its grace." This poetic expression metaphorically portrays the blooming pink roses as charming beauties, conveying the flowers' vibrant beauty, which becomes even more enchanting under the nourishment of wind and rain.

When drawing roses, compared to peonies and roses, the main differences are reflected in the structure and shape of the flowers. The shape of the rose is relatively simple, with open petals, and an overall flatter shape. Meanwhile, Teacher JINLI adeptly showcases the uniqueness of different flower varieties. When painting, adjusting the structure and technique according to the characteristics of the flowers highlights their beauty.

《JIN Family's Flowing Technique》

— Pouring Technique

JIN Family's Flowing Technique originated within the family's artistic heritage, blending Chinese ink and Western watercolor.      – JIN, JIA-QI (Father of JINLI) - Watercolor Flow Series

Teacher JINLI, influenced by her father's guidance and later inspired by Teacher LIU, SHOU-XIANG, gradually integrated their painting techniques. Her style incorporates the moistness of wet painting and the thickness of dry painting. Subsequently, during advanced studies, she was influenced by Teacher LIU, YI, ultimately developing her own distinctive artistic style. Utilizing vibrant and bright colors, employing bold and affirmative brushstrokes, the images are dynamic and graceful. As for the lines in the composition, they are the natural traces of the process, never deliberately avoiding these elements, Moreover, the pencil sketch itself is an integral part of the artwork, allowing you to make choices based on your own needs and preferences. The painter who has influenced JINLI the most is her father, not only as her guiding teacher but also as the mentor who led her into the realm of art.

Teachers LIU, SHOU-XIANG and LIU, YI have provided significant assistance in artistic creation. The styles of revered masters such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Paul Cézanne, Zorn, Sargent, and Impressionist painters have had a profound and lifelong impact on us, enriching our artistic journey.

This kind of free-flowing technique is particularly suitable for depicting mountains, rivers, and in that closed and conservative era, it was like a treasure. It also saved JINLI's father's life and deeply wounded soul because of painting.Later, JINLI brought the free-flowing technique into teaching in Russia, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Paper Recommendations : French ARCHES watercolor paper with medium texture Other recommendations : 1. English Saunders Waterford watercolor paper (single sheet) 2. Fabriano from Italy (single sheet) 3. French watercolor paper 4. Bao Hong watercolor paper

Choosing paper, there's a variety of options:

ARCHES: Simulates the natural texture of handmade paper with its circular mesh, made from 100% cotton pulp. It features internal sizing technology and is recognized by many watercolor masters. Its slightly white color makes it resistant to scraping. It exhibits excellent color rendering, even with multiple layers and continuous adjustments. The paper undergoes anti-mold treatment, contains no bleaching agents, and is suitable for long-term preservation.

Saunders Waterford and other imported brands also offer quality papers, each with its own unique characteristics. If budget is a concern, you can try more affordable watercolor papers. It's recommended to start with single sheets for experimentation, and then decide based on your preferences and habits.
